What is Micro-Needling and How Does It Work?

Micro-Needling is a minimally invasive cosmetic dermatological procedure that involves using small needles to create micro-channels, or tiny holes, in the skin. This process activates your skin’s natural healing mechanisms, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. Additionally, these superficial micro-channels enhance the absorption of topical gels, creams, and serums into the skin. Known as Collagen Induction Therapy, this procedure aids in filling fine lines, improving acne scars, minimizing large pores, and brightening the skin. The outcome is a rejuvenated appearance with plumper, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. The wound healing process consists of three phases: Inflammation: By introducing microchannels into the skin using a medical-grade microneedling device, the immune system is stimulated to increase blood flow, removing debris and cleansing the deeper layers of the skin. This initiates the creation of new tissue. Proliferation: As the ‘wound’ undergoes repair, granulation cells contribute to the development of the extracellular matrix and new vascular structures, providing the structural foundation for new tissue growth. Remodeling: The final stage of the rejuvenation process involves the formation of new dermal tissue and vascular supply, leading to skin rejuvenation.

What are the Benefits of Micro-Needling?

The advantages of micro needling combined with specially formulated serums with hyaluronic acid and peptides are extensive, enduring, and can be beneficial with: -Acne and deep scars -Alopecia and Rosacea -Enhanced skin texture -Reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars -Minimization of large pores -Dark spots or skin discoloration (hyperpigmentation) -Evening out of skin tone -Restoration of a radiant complexion Microneedling is suitable for all skin types, making it an excellent choice for individuals with darker skin tones, as it may be safer compared to laser and other treatments. Each microneedling session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and location of the treated area. Most individuals require three to six sessions to achieve optimal results, with treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. While superficial improvements may be noticed sooner, the full benefits of treatment may take several weeks to become apparent.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Microneedling is considered safe for healthy adults; however, it's important to note that the procedure involves breaking the skin to initiate the regeneration process. It may take several days for the skin to fully heal, so the procedure is more suitable for individuals who do not have difficulty with the healing process. If you have a chronic skin or health condition, it is advisable to discuss it with your doctor. Microneedling is not recommended for patients with a history of keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular disease, fungal infections, or a history of eczema and psoriasis. It is also contraindicated for patients who are immunosuppressed, pregnant, or nursing.

What to Expect?

Rare adverse effects may involve scarring and infection. While the risk of infection is minimal, it is essential to maintain cleanliness in the treatment area following the procedure. Detailed written instructions will be provided to simplify this process. Expect some redness after the procedure, which typically diminishes within 24 hours. It is normal to experience slight tenderness when touching the treated area after each session. Additionally, you may feel a sensation of tightness during the initial day or two post-treatment. Other possible side effects may include bruising and scabbing due to minor pinpoint bleeding during the procedure. However, your skin should return to its normal appearance and feel healed within 24 hours, with significant improvement after three days.
